Things to add

[edit]
  • Relationship with Mosrite guitars - endorsed until 1969.
  • Outsold Beatles in Japan in 1960's.
  • First vinyl LP I ever bought was one of theirs. No, wait, that's neither notable nor verifiable.

Clean-up

[edit]

Oh man, I'm FUMED. I was almost done giving this article the much-needed makeover it deserves, when my computer crashed. There's alot of things in this article that aren't necessary, and alot of parts that make it sound really promotional. Most of this is copy and pasted. The history section should be divided up into sections. I had it divided into Early history, 1960's and beyond, and line-up changes. After History, I had added a members section, divided into the original four, and later members. If anyone could take over, that'd be cool. For now, however, I'm giving up. Okbye! --EndlessVince 20:32, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

DDS
I have added an infobox from WikiProject_Musicians as the first part of the article cleanup. I'm hoping to be able to take care of this over the next few weeks. Feel free to leave ideas for what should go in here. My goal is to get this up to Featured Article status, but it obviously needs a lot of work before it will get there. Surf Rider

[edit]

The Lively Ones did not write Surf Rider. It is actually a cover of the Ventures song "Spudnick" from the Mashed Potato & Gravy Album written by guitarist Nokie Edwards. Someone please edit this. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 206.116.125.97 (talk) 21:31, 9 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think The Ventures wrote the theme for Hawaii Five-0, I think Morton Steven did. They only performed it. But I'm not sure. --Kricke

They featured the song on an album (if memory serves) of the same name. I think you are correct in saying they did not write it, but I'm not sure who did. Should be able to find out - check back later. --WCFrancis 04:06, 7 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I'm pretty sure Morton Stevens wrote the Hawaii Five-0 theme, not the Ventures. See here: Imdb, CD on Amazon and Hawaii Five-O Production Staff for example. --Kricke, 22:03 13 June 2005 (CET)

George Babbitt

[edit]

Unless someone can counter this, I will be removing George Babbitt from the list of members. He was never an official member of the group (as until 1962, the group officially consisted of just Bogle and Wilson). Instead, I propose that Babbitt's role be mentioned in the Walk Don't Run article instead. Any other suggestions? Vmanjr (talk) 08:21, 18 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

George WAS a mamber in 1959. He was just too young to play in bars at the time. He was replaced. Aoresteen (talk) 21:20, 21 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Don Wilson

[edit]

Surprised there's no article on him, not even a DOB. Rothorpe (talk) 21:28, 20 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Four years and seven months later, still no article. Only a stub in Finnish Wikipedia and a bit longer article in Japanese. 89.27.93.167 (talk) 20:39, 30 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Why no mention of Caravan?

[edit]

I am not a music person. I am an engineer. But, even I know of Caravan, one of the greatest drum and guitar performances I have ever heard. Is there a reason it is being excluded? on purpose? you can easily find a recording on youtube under Ventures,Caravan, LIVE-1980 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.46.137.30 (talk) 21:30, 15 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Pops in Japan (1967) and Pops in Japan No. 2 (1968)

[edit]

These two albums should be in the regular discography section. Although only released in Japan, they both contain exclusive studio recordings and should be treated as regular studio albums. Chapa1985 (talk) 16:42, 6 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Evolution of "The Ventures Model" Mosrite Guitar Shape

[edit]

Semie Moseley told me over the telephone in the mid-80's that the radical shape of the guitar body was actually unbelievably simple. He just put a Stratocaster on the floor, and traced the outline onto some paper. Then he flipped the paper template over so that the Mosrite design was exactly a mirror image of the classic Stratocaster.

Other Mosrite signatures, like the notched "M" in the headstock and the zero-fret were added as Mosrite "exclusives"; but they didn't serve any functional purpose. Strictly decorative. 216.115.253.58 (talk) 18:03, 1 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
